Frequently Asked Questions about Supervised Visitation in LA and Ventura
Supervised visitation in Los Angeles and Ventura County is typically court-ordered when a non-custodial parent has been accused of misconduct. This can include emotional, verbal, physical, or sexual abuse. For dependent adults, it may also involve financial abuse concerns.
In shared custody situations, judges in LA or Ventura may order supervised exchanges instead of full supervised visits. This is often used when a restraining order is in place, allowing a monitor to facilitate the child transfer without parent contact.
California law allows for Professional or Non-Professional Supervised Monitors:
- Professional monitors are neutral third parties, trained in domestic abuse, with clean background checks.
- Non-professional monitors are typically unpaid friends or family members, which may lead to trust issues.
A professional monitor in Los Angeles and Ventura County ensures child safety during visitations or exchanges. They remain within earshot and eyesight of interactions and can stop visits if the child's welfare is at risk.
Per California Rules of Court, Standard 5.20, Professional Monitors must be at least 21, have no criminal record, complete required training, and be fingerprinted and vetted.
- Supervised visits and exchanges across both counties
- Detailed, unbiased visitation reports
- Court declarations when ordered by LA or Ventura courts
- Expert court testimony when subpoenaed in either jurisdiction
- Visitation – Our charges depend on how many minors are involved during the visit, location, duration and frequency of the visit.
- Who pays – The court decides who will pay for the visits. Many times the NCP pays the entire amount and sometimes the court determines both the Non-custodial (NCP) and the Custodial (CP) pay. Each case is determined by the courts according to each individual situation.
- Reports – Reports are made for each visit. If the CP or NCP order a report there is a cost for each report. Each report cost varies according to how many minors are at the visit, and the duration of the visit.
- Declarations – A Declaration cost will be determined case by case depending on length and time it takes to prepare the declaration. The more complicated circumstance, the longer it will take to write a declaration. The less complicated, the lower the cost.
- Court Testimony – A monitor can give a declaration or get subpoenaed to court for testimony. There is an additional charge for either Court Testimony option.
- Travel – There is a minor cost for travel if it's local within a 20 mile radius. If it's outside the 20 mile radius, the cost is still minor but will increase slightly.
